TTRPG Community Interview with Amelia Fey

Hey there and welcome to another TTRPG Community interview! These are low key, prewritten interviews which are available to fill out on this page. If you are a part of the TTRPG space in almost any way at all, there should be something for you!

Today, we're hearing from Amelia Fey Parsons!

Please introduce yourself and the content you create!

Hi, I'm Amelia Fey Parsons (@TrueFeyQueen888 and @TrueFeyGaming on Twitter) and I make both original rules light ttrpgs, D&D 5e homebrew, and system agnostic content such as worldbuilding help and random tables.

How did you get started making TTRPG content? What motivated you to begin?

I got started with homebrew for Pathfinder 1e and it was, well, it wasnt as good as what I make now. Then made a modern urban fantasy hack of Pathfinder 1e that is way too complicated but honestly pretty cool. Then when I got into 5e I started doing homebrew there. Why? More options and to let out some bottled up creativity. Then I made my own system (TAGS RPG) as I started exploring other new systems. And as I got started on TTRPG Twitter I started making some indie games using Caltrop Core, The W.E.I.R.D. Project, Push, and more original games.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Some unknowable wellspring in the depths of my mind I guess. But also pop culture (I have a monk subclass inspired by the Flash and my game Alchemical Romance is inspired by Teen Supernatural Dramas on CW & Netflix). Also just nature and the world around me. And dreams. Dreams too.

What was the first thing you ever made? Are you still proud of it?

Pathfinder 1e content. I think the first thing I made for that were some races and class stuff for an antiquities era fantasy setting inspired by Dinotopia and honestly that stuff was pretty good. So yeah, that, proud of that.

What's your favourite TTRPG system to create content for?

5e. I'm more familiar with it. And people I bounce ideas off of are more familiar with it.

What other TTRPG systems do you enjoy playing?

I enjoy a lot. Pathfinder (2e & 1e). Mouse Guard. FFG's Star Wars TTRPG (specifically Age of Rebellion). Cypher System. Savage World. There are so many more I haven't had a chance to play but desperately want to.

AI has proved to have a huge impact on the TTRPG community. As succinctly as possible, what is your general opinion on the use of AI for writing/content creation?

I don't like it. At first I thought this is fun. Then I found out how it is often made, and the fact you could be taking work from artists. I quickly went to maybe but only under specific circumstances to (even quicker) no, dont like this.

Are you a part of the LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, AAPI, Disabled or any other marginalised community?

Yes I am a transgender pan lesbian woman and I am disabled.

If yes, do you reflect this in the content you create? How important do you think it is for folks of all identities to feel recognised within the games they play?

I have a game about mental health, burnout, mutual aid, fighting toxicity, healthy relationships and support systems. I have another game I advertise as a "queer magic school ttrpg" and it also touches on burnout and mental health. And I try to offer stylized versions and plain text versions of all my original games so they can be more accessible. So yeah, I'd say so.

What's the next project people will see from you?

Got some Patreon exclusive coming up (primarily D&D 5e homebrew), 2 interviews with other creatives in the TTRPG space coming to my blog, and as for new projects probably Hang Up the Cape, my Wretched and Alone solo journaling game about retired superheroes, responsibility, purpose, identity, changing times, and reflection. But theres a chance We Are Dinosaurs or Hellfire Kitchen beats it to release. The Spooky supplement to TAGS RPG has a chance too.

Of all of the things you've created, which one is your personal favourite?

Really proud of my original system TAGS RPG. I also really like Alchemical Romance, that one seems to be more popular too. One I think is criminally underrated is Beaks & Blunderbusses. So much fun potential and shenanigans with that one. Seeing a Beaks & Blunderbusses oneshot streamed would be super cool (as would Alchemical Romance, tbf).

As for D&D 5e homebrew I really like some of the races I came up with, especially the Nymph, Elken, Skogkatti, Phoenix Elves, Wax Dwarves, Reybardi, Elderlings, and a few feats and spells.

Tell us about your process when creating. Do you have any tips or tricks for other creators in the same space as you?

I'm probably not a good example for creative process or practice tbh, heh. I will say this: just create. You can always put a project in pause/hiatus if you want and for however long you want. You can scrap a project. You can redo, revise, and/or update a project. Just create. Also a project doesnt have to be a big one. Making a homebrew spell in D&D 5e is a project. Heck making a random table is a project.

Shout out a fellow creator! Who in the TTRPG community inspires you? Why do you admire them/their work? Please provide a link to their website/social media.

Jordan (Hypnos) helped me make a supplement for his game and I really appreciate them. Also a very supportive person.

Lex (Titanomachy) made Caltrop Core which powers Alchemical Romance, and their silly posts inspired both a race I made for them for D&D 5e, the Bagellian, and my WIP game Hang Up the Cape. They also just really genuinely wanna see the TTRPG community grow and blossom.

Rasheed (Lands of Theia) is just such a cool supportive person and does great work on Lands of Theia. I even had the honor of being in a game he ran for a while.

Cezar Capacle is a super creative indie ttrpg creator, an early supporter of mine as I was getting started, and I have 2 games that use his Push SRD. Overall a really cool and friendly guy.

Are you playing in any TTRPG campaigns at the moment? Tell us about your favourite character!

I'm playing in 2. In my Pathfinder 2e I've got a nonbinary elf druid named Kae who takes a more academic approach to druidry, is a botanist/herbalist and a medic, and a total softie. They've got a leshy faniliar bamed Kip, a combat tree companion, named Mr. Tree, and 2 baby Wargs.

In a D&D gestalt campaign I have Kelbo the Loxodon Innkeeper Commoner/Peace Domain Cleric. A total good natured himbo inspired by Kronk and Korg who just wants to bake pie and make people happy. He's the comic relief.

What's your favourite book, TV show, or film?

Favorite TV shows are Lucifer, Supernatural, Adventure Time, and Gravity Falls.

Favorite Films are Ferris Bueller's Day Off, American Ultra, Easy A, My Neighbor Totoro, Big Hero 6, and The Danish Girl. I also loved the new D&D movie, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Favorite Books are Legends & Lattes, The Prince and the Dress Maker, The Hobbit, and American Gods.

Tell us a fact about yourself that others might struggle to believe.

I dont like tea. People always assune I'm a tea drinker. I also dont have a belly button. That one confuses people. And I'm really tall. I feel like I dont give Tall Girl Energy.

Which subject do you wish you knew more about?

Fashion. Digimon. Coding. Art.

What is your favourite smell?

Eggo Blueberry Waffles. 2nd favorite smell is campfire. 3rd is honeysuckle.

If you could listen to only one song for the next 7 days, which one would you choose?

Want Me by Baby Queen. I freaking love that song.

If you could give the current chapter of your life a name, what would it be?

Finally Starting My Life: For Real This Time My Confident Girl Era)

What is the strangest food combination you enjoy?

Bacon Bits on Skillet Apple Pie a la mode

If time, money and skill were no object, what would your ultimate cosplay/Halloween costume be?

Gosh so many options. Probably some genderbent character. I wana cosplay femme Eddie Munson. Might try and be Princess Daisy from Mario Bros this year. And I really wanna cosplay Wonder Woman and Marceline the Vampire Queen.

Would you rather own a horse the size of a cat or a cat the size of a horse?

Giant Cat!

Please add anything extra that you'd like to share below.

Hydrate, Medicate, Stay Safe. Put love into the universe. Just create. Be kind.
